About the Face Masks

Hello to all who are using the masks I made.
Thank you for ordering my masks and trust me to make them for you.

Please know that any mask is better than no masks; however if it is not fit properly it does not do any good. Please do your own research on how to wear the mask properly.

If for some reason you need help for better fit, please email me and we can schedule a video phone session to go over some tips.

Make sure you wash your hands well before and after handling the masks.

Do not scratch your nose or touch your mouth inside the mask. If you need to itch, try to do it from over the mask. And make sure you wash your hands afterwards immediately.

Important:

Write your names on the mask.
Do Not Share!
Tell your children not to play with the mask.
You don’t want virus to spread all over the place.

Use the nose wire for better fit.
If the one I gave you does not work, try some other wire.

Use the double sided tape to seal any loose spots!! This is very important.
If you don’t have double sided tape, use some other tape to seal any open spaces.
This is very important.
Any mask is better than No mask.
However if you do not have a good seal, It is useless.

Elastics- if the one I gave you is too short, add rubber-bands, ribbon, string, stripped T-shirt, stockings, etc.
If you need help with fitting, let me know. We can try to schedule a video chat.

SAVE the elastic bands!
All the stores are out of materials!!
It is very difficult to find elastics right now.
Please save your rubber elastic bands for your next mask! In such case, please iron or soak in 80%+ alcohol for at least 30 sec. and disinfect before storing.
A hot soapy water (made with dish soap) would work too.
Garment Steamers are perfect also.

Be sure to dry completely.

Filter -
You can insert it into the pocket.

Material1 : Merv13 air filter

Line the “out” (外) to outer side of the mask.

Material 2: Surgical Mask - see below video how to insert.

You can also use a filter of your choice.

Just an approximate estimate of blockage:
These numbers are from the internet.
Information changes everyday so please do your own research.

Thin Cotton: approx 53%
(approx60% if doubled)

Cotton Mix (flannel or jersey): Approx 64%

Tea Towel: approx 50-73%

Merv13 filter: captures over 90% small particles in the furnace but uncertain in masks. There are different results in the recent lab tests.

Surgical Masks: By itself, approx. 85%

Just doubling same materials do not necessarily increase protection. But my theory is that by layering different types of fabrics will help capture what one material did not catch by another.

Precaution I use while making the masks:
The fabrics have been washed, dried, and ironed.
I try my best to wipe down my tools and workstation with detergents and alcohol 91%.
I  wear my mask when I make the masks and frequently wash & sanitized my hands.

However, if you want to take extra precaution, please steam or iron both sides of the mask before wearing.

Please wear the mask when you go to work, go shopping, meet someone, etc. Protect yourself and the others.

Stay Safe & Healthy!
